This recipe is not creating a biryani in the traditional sense, I want to give you an easier and quicker recipe to start off with. We can get into more complicated recipes in time. You can make this dish in about 30-45 min:
Ingredients:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
2 cups rice (uncooked basmati rice ) – wash and rinse and keep aside.
1 can garbanzo beans
1 medium sized onion – chopped
Biryani masala, or if you dont have it, you can use turmeric (1tsp) and some chilli powder or amchur powder
Method:
In a saucepan on medium heat, add 2 tablespoon of olive oil and the jeera(cumin seeds)
once they begin to spatter , add the chopped garlic, and onions,
saute till they are translucent.
Next drain the garbanzo beans and add to the pan.
Put the spices in and stir for about one minute
Add the rice and water and reduce heat to simmer.
Cover the pan and let it simmer for about 8-10 mins,
you will start smelling the basmati rice and it should be done.
just check on it when you start smelling the aroma of the rice ,try not to open the lid many times.
Turn off heat and let it sit for 2- 3 minutes
Redy to serve with some papad or pickle or even with potato chips.
enjoy!
